Invaluable book for people who have or will have loved one's in a Nursing Facility whether it be long term or for short term rehab. The book is filled with facts and stats all of which are foot-noted for verification. It is informative to the point of bringing a host of emotions up as you read. The stories of real life cases are heart wrenching but will hopefully be used for positive change and improvement to come. I am telling all of my friends about this book so they can arm themselves with the tools to best protect their loved ones. It is written in simple lay verbiage but yet filled with facts and legal insight.

This informative book is hard to put down. It is a much-needed resource for every caregiver, equipping the reader to help make educated choices and decisions. It provided me with facts, statistics, and tips to guide me in choosing a nursing home and how to proceed when negligence is suspected. It answered questions that I, like so many caregivers, have wondered about. It provides a storehouse of information and outlines red flags that we often overlook in the care of our loved one. I only wish I had this book when my dad was still alive. It would have empowered me, and spared him unnecessary and painful abuse and neglect.
Abuses and Excuses should be read by everyone considering nursing home care for their loved ones or themselves. Patient/resident stories are heart breaking, to say the least, but shed light on what actually happens in these facilities. Jeff provides excellent guidelines on what needs to be done if problems arise, and sadly they will. We experienced first hand mistreatments of our mother. If only we had Jeff’s book, the outcome might have been a lot different. Abuses and Excuses is a must read for everyone.

This author will give you guidelines how to navigate complex nursing home maze. Wish I would have had this reference book when we were choosing a nursing home for our mother.
