I first read this book months ago when I received it as a gift from the author in exchange for an honest review. As soon as I'd finished it, I was bugging her for a way to get my review published. She told me to hold on and wait until the book was published, so it's sat on my carousel for months, waiting. On May 6th I purchased my own copy, because ARC's often disappear; it was another two months before it popped up on my carousel! I was just planning on skimming through it to refresh my memory, and, darn, if I didn't wind up rereading the whole thing. It's only 179 pages, so it didn't take long, and I must admit that I enjoyed it just as much the second time around. Laney and Nate were made for each other, and I had forgotten how funny the story is. There's her brother, Gavin, who's coasting through life, clueless, and her adorable son, Rocco, who's only five, yet sharper than the rest of them combined. There are parents and siblings and co-workers, enough to keep the storyline speeding along, and to keep you laughing and flipping pages right through to the end. I hope you try it, because there's never enough sweet romance or humor in this old world of ours. All in all, it's a very satisfying read.Jgtimm
Short review. Light fluffy witty romance. The characters are delightful, Laney's son Rocco is so adorable it's hard not to love him. I was slightly annoyed by Laney's treatment of her brother Gavin, for years he's been in a slump but he's been helping her raise her son and instead of being happy for him for starting to get out of said slump. She can't help but either think or say backhanded complaints about him, I get that she thinks that he needs to give up on ever being a professional baseball player but she could have handled treating him better.
This was an enjoyable read. Laney is a single mom (as a result of a one night stand) and Nate is back in town working for his family's construction business (as a result of his father's health). Sparks fly when the 2 meet. Rather than it being a casual encounter, it's a confrontation because of the building his company is putting up in her neighborhood. This book had so much real life in it that it was more than believable. The secondary characters were just as enjoyable as the main ones. One of the things that I loved was some conflict AND resolution between Laney and her brother Gavin. Too often books focus primarily with the H and h. Adding the interactions with internal family made the realism more palpable and gets the reader more invested in the story. This was fun, flirty and a fast read. It was by first read from Sylvie, but won't be my last.
I am so glad I read this alone with the dog (he is not critical about mommy's behavior ). My husband gets very nosy when I am laughing and reading a book. And, there was a lot of laughing out loud! This book was just absolutely hysterical. It's a love story with some very interesting dysfunctional people. It is sarcastic, sassy, snarky and fighting. Several storylines that blended nicely. It was well written and the characters well developed. Grabs you right in the beginning and is fast moving all the way through; no boring dragging rhetoric. After I finish this, I am going to get the next book in the series.
The Fix (Carolina Connections Book 1)By: Sylvie Stewart5 out of 5 starsThe story The Fix (Carolina Connections Book 1) by Sylvie Stewart is a romantic comedy. This is the story of Laney Monroe and Nate Murphy. This is a story that had me laughing so hard at different scenes that I was holding my sides. It tells the story of two wonderful people who once they find each other also find they are falling in love. This book has the best characters. Laney and Nate are awesome. Laney is a single mother who has just purchased a home for herself and her son. Her brother also lives there as well. Laney has a sense of humor that doesn’t stop. Although some of what she says can be classified as sarcasm. Laney is a very responsible person and a wonderful mom. She always puts her son first and worries when she sees him struggling to make friends with other children. She certainly did not think that a chance meeting with Nate Murphy would lead to him showing up at her door. Him being her brother’s boss is not helping matters. Laney also has a best friend that she always turns to when things get rough and when she needs advice. Will Laney put aside her worries and take a chance on love with Nate?Nate has always known that he would be coming back to North Carolina, just not so soon. A family emergency speeds up that timeline. Nate loves the physical work of construction, not the paperwork. That is what he is now faced with as he has taken over the day to day operations of the family business. Meeting Laney Monroe was also not something he had foreseen. Nate is someone that puts his family first. He loves them even when they drive him crazy. Although Nate was not looking for love when Laney turns up before him, he is determined to get to know her better. So when Laney is hesitant about dating him he doesn’t understand that reason why. Using the reason of helping her fix up her house, Nate is soon a regular at Laney’s and also gets to know her son. Will Nate be able to prove to Laney that she is the one that he wants? This is the first book I have read by the author and I will be reading more of her books. She not only tells an awesome story, her characters come to life and their personalities jump off the page at you. I found myself wanting friends just like them. This book will have you laughing and fully behind Laney and Nate getting their HEA. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. This book does have adult language and situations. It would be recommended for those 18 years of age or older.
I'm absolutely in LOVE with this author! This is the first book I've read by her but it was perfect. I was laughing throughout the book and the characters were so down to earth and easy to identify with. The story was simple and realistic without too much drama (thank you Sylvie!) and had a great balance of emotions, character development and time lapse. Can't wait to read more from Miss Sylvie Stewart!!
